GOLETA, California – April 5, 2024 – LaunchPoint Electric Propulsion Solutions, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a contract from the United States Air Force to develop a power generation system that will enable the Air Force to optimize missions, reduce manufacturing and replacement costs, and simplify maintenance. The contract was awarded through the AFWERX Power Generation Challenge for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), which seeks to accelerate the development of transformative energy solutions that enhance operational capabilities and resilience across the Air Force. Under Phase I of the project, LaunchPoint will utilize its expertise in electrical power generation to tailor a modular power generation system to the specific requirements of Air Force missions and platforms. The generators will be based on LaunchPoint’s novel power-dense and lightweight motors, leveraging the latest advancements in electric machine and controller technology.
