LaunchPoint™ designs and manufactures high specific power electric machines and controller solutions for the aerospace, defense, thermal management, power generation, and Advanced Air Mobility markets.
With over a decade of experience in the custom design and engineering of electric machines and hybrid electric power systems, our team is recognized as world experts in electric propulsion technology. Our extended flight solutions are scalable and serve aerial and ground applications.
The origins of LaunchPoint™ derive from California-based technology incubator and think tank, LaunchPoint Technologies (LPT). The parent company, known for its inventions (Inogen, Pediaflow among others), technological leadership, and cutting-edge design, was founded in 1992. In 2010, with U.S. government funding, LPT’s multifaceted engineering group embarked upon a novel design for an electric machine to be used to generate power for flight applications. Over the next ten years, the team would successfully develop and patent electric machines, hybrid generator sets and aerospace turbogenerators for extended flight.
In 2020, the company brought on new management with a track record of working with advanced technology companies to generate value and investment for commercializing its technology. As a result, LaunchPoint™ was spun out from LPT. With new leadership, the company pivoted to focus on expanding the business globally to manufacture and sell products by leveraging its commercial and government funded innovations.
Today, LaunchPoint™ continues to develop unparalleled electric and hybrid electric power systems and software. Our proprietary Modeling Advanced Aircraft Propulsion (MAAP™) tool is a software suite that optimizes hundreds of key design variables related to propulsion and power generation system design and performance. We consult with the world’s top aerospace and automotive companies to design, customize and manufacture the best propulsion and power generation systems for their applications using this platform. Our highly efficient, power-dense electric machines and GenSets can be either air or liquid-cooled and controlled with our SmartPoint™ software. Our products power unmanned aerial systems in the 1.5 kW to 40 kW range and air mobility for passenger and cargo applications in the 40 kW to 250 kW range. Our customers are global Fortune 500 companies, aerospace, defense, automotive and air vehicle integrators.
